1. Choosing a Location

Here at Woodlawn Memorial Park we offer two niche location options for families:

  • The First being our outdoor niches in the Cremation Garden.
  • The second is niches located indoors in our Mausoleum. Our Mausoleum is a historic building that offers marble-fronted niches as well as glass niches.
  • Pending which niche option is selected, a bronze plaque with information about loved ones can be placed on the niche front.

2. Preparing for the Service

In this part of the process, you would work with one of our team members to schedule a date and time of arrival for the service to take place.

  • Decide who will attend the niche interment ceremony. This can be a private moment or a gathering of family and friends.
  • Plan how you wish the service to take place, whether through speeches, prayers, or a moment of silence.

What to Expect During the Niche Internment Service

Niche burial service set up

Whether the cremated remains are placed in a simple container or decorative urn, the placement into a niche is a deeply personal experience, and each service can be unique to the family’s wishes for gathering, remembering, and honouring. Here’s a general outline of what you can expect from our team:

  1. Preparation
  • Our team will place a roadside sign close to the location so that attendees know where to stop and enter the Cremation Garden. A team member will be there to greet families and friends attending.
  • The niche will be open, and a pedestal stand will be placed in front for families to place the urn for gathering and service.
  • Our Grounds Team Member will step back to give the family their time and space to gather.
  1. Placement of the Urn into Niche and Reflection
  • Once the service is complete, a family member is welcome to place the urn into the niche. If preferred, our team can assist with this while family and attendees observe.
  • Once the urn has been placed, when ready, our team member will complete the closing of the niche front and securing. This may be completed with the family present or once the family has completed the gathering and left the area.
  • Our team will work with the family, knowing their wishes prior to the service taking place.

Post-Niche Interment Considerations

After the niche interment service, it is normal to experience a range of emotions. Here are some considerations that may help during moments of grief.

  • Support Network: Lean on family and friends for support during this emotional time.
  • Memorialization: Consider a memorial plaque, planting a tree, or dedicating a bench in honor of your loved one. A member of our team can assist you.
  • Personal Reflection: Take time for personal reflection and grief processing. Everyone experiences loss differently, so allow yourself the space to heal.
