Spring has arrived and it’s a busy time of year for Woodlawn Memorial Park as we clean and prepare our grounds for the year. We look forward to the community enjoying the beauty of our park while visiting loved ones and enjoying a stroll through our winding roads and paths.
One of the greatest aspects of Woodlawn Memorial Park is our history. We have a history as old as Guelph (dating back to 1827) that includes the history of people and families resting at Woodlawn.
The importance of monuments
Family histories can begin to be told through monuments.
When a family decides to have a monument created for a loved one, it’s typically developed in collaboration with our designers. The purpose of the monument is to begin to tell the story of the person being laid to rest.
Some monuments provide simple details like dates of birth and death, while others combine words and artwork to share a more in-depth story about a life.
Whatever story you wish to tell, our designers will work with you to create something special.
The Monument Process
Either before or at the time of passing, our team will meet with families to help determine arrangements that fit their needs. The inscription details on a monument are a part of this process.
Some families have pre-arranged their monument so that when someone passes, the only thing that needs to be added is the date of the passing.
Other families, especially in the event of an unexpected death, choose all the details for a monument when the time if right for the family.
There is no right or wrong way to go through this process, nor is there an obligation to share more than you’re comfortable with on a monument.
We work with families that have different needs and budgets, so you can rest assured we’ll find a monument that’s right for you.
Woodlawn Memorial Park takes inscription orders throughout the year with the intention that when warmer, spring weather arrives, we can start completing orders and formally telling the story of a loved one.
All inscriptions are performed on-site. However, if yours is a larger project, it may be necessary for our team of professionals to remove the monument temporarily and bring it to our shop where it is out of the elements and there is full access to all the tools our team may need to complete the inscription.
If you are seeking a monument and inscription, please contact our office and a member of our professional team will work with you to share the story of your loved one’s life.
